Today, in a significant stride towards the strengthening of European TSO cooperation, ENTSO-E welcomes Moldelectrica as its newest Observer Member. Following a successful emergency synchronisation of the Continental European Power System with the Moldovan and Ukrainian grids on 16 March 2022, the signing of the Observer Membership Agreement marks a meaningful moment in the evolution of the partnership between Moldelectrica and the European electricity TSO members of ENTSO-E.

The community of European TSOs formed by ENTSO-E operates with a shared responsibility, united in ensuring the continuous supply of electricity across Europe. The agreement between Moldelectrica and ENTSO-E reflects the dedication of the European TSOs to reinforce and pave the way for further technical collaboration aimed at bolstering the stability, efficiency, and security of the European interconnected power network.

While saluting this new chapter, ENTSO-E’s President Zbyněk Boldiš, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “On behalf of all members of ENTSO-E, I am pleased to welcome Moldelectrica into the European association of electricity Transmission System Operators. This Agreement formalises our support and solidarity with Moldelectrica and is an acknowledgment of its efforts in maintaining Moldova’s transmission power system stability in challenging circumstances. We anticipate a meaningful collaboration and celebrate an important milestone in our Association’s history with Moldelectrica as an Observer Member.”

Mr. Sergiu Aparatu, Interim General Director Moldelectrica, remarked, “Becoming an Observer Member of ENTSO-E is a significant testimony of the substantial backing extended by our European TSO counterparts. It is a source of pride for us. In our capacity as an Observer Member, Moldelectrica looks forward to forging a durable and mutually advantageous collaboration with ENTSO-E. I wish to express my gratitude to all ENTSO-E Members for their strong support and gracious welcome.”

During the official signing ceremony held in Brussels, Mr. Boldiš and Mr. Sergiu Aparatu, Interim General Director Moldelectrica acknowledged the valuable participation and endorsement of several esteemed speakers. Among those present were distinguished figures such as H.E. Daniela Morari, Ambassador, Head of the Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union; Ioan Pogea, Energy Attaché, Permanent Representation of Romania to the European Union; Damian Cortinas, Chair of ENTSO-E Board and Sonya Twohig, Secretary-General ENTSO-E.
