Workshop summary

On 4 July 2025, ENTSO-E and ENTSOG invited all interested stakeholders to take part in the public workshop on the TYNDP 2026 Scenarios draft input data and methodologies, putting particular focus on the first-time application of the economic variants via its draft methodology.

Having taken place within the framework of the TYNDP 2026 Scenarios development cycle, the stakeholder workshop gathered various representatives from public and private sectors to discuss the development and later implementation of the upcoming TYNDP 2026 Scenarios to achieve the goal of meaningful exchange of findings and continuation of building the right forecasts for Europe’s energy and climate ambitions from today over 2030, 2040 up until 2050.

In the run-up to the workshop, ENTSO-E and ENTSOG opened two public consultations on draft input datasets and draft methodologies and the draft economic variants methodology. This milestone is the first deliverable in the formal process for the TYNDP 2026 scenario building, as required by Article 12 of (EU) 2022/869.

The public consultation on the draft TYNDP 2026 Scenarios data and methodologies’ timeframe is 16 June – 14 July 2025. The public consultation on the draft TYNDP 2026 Scenarios economic variants’ timeframe is 1 July – 29 July 2029.

Subjects discussed

The discussions were structured following the publicly available consultation package that includes the Scenarios Innovation Roadmap, TSOs’ data reflecting NECPs and national and EU policies, modelling tools’ records illustrating demand and supply breakdowns by country, carrier and sector, including reference grid, climate year, generation, flexibility, technology, H2 and CO2 assumptions.

A particular focus was on the draft economic variant methodology encompassing its regulatory foundation and assumptions, first approach and identification of possible bottlenecks and potential measures to further facilitate the stress-testing of the central Scenario.

Participants

The hybrid event convened about 150 key stakeholders, including representatives from industry and advocacy groups, energy companies and utilities, research institutions and think tanks, as well as consultancies and technology providers reflecting a balanced representation and incorporating diverse perspectives from all parts of the EU.

Outcome

ENTSOG and ENTSO-E extend their thanks to all participants for attending and contributing to the engaging discussions on the initial findings that will help shape accurate forecasts aligned with Europe’s energy and climate goals for 2030, 2040, and 2050.

After the conclusion of the two public consultations, a public consultation report will be published to capture all input and feedback questions received during the workshop as well as the public consultations.
