The TF HVDC Reliability of WG Asset Implementation and Management would like to invite you to the ENTSO-E Final Dissemination Workshop on HVDC Reliability in Brussels on 14 May 2019 at ENSO-E premises, Avenue de Cortenbergh 100, 1000 Brussels, from 10.00-16.00h (Ground Floor).

Background:

The importance of HVDC systems is increasing. ENTSO-E has internally collected and shared experiences of HVDC reliability and availability issues since 2015 with two internal Workshops and a Task Force working on reports regarding experiences and recommendations to improve HVDC reliability, which now are in the finalization stage. ENTSO-E SDC has already published a Position Paper “Improving HVDC system reliability” in December 2018.

The TF has identified some challenges and improvement needs, which require cooperation and resources to deal with the issues and to collect and share information and lessons learned from HVDC faults and incidents. With this Workshop, TF HVDC Reliability wants to collect the whole HVDC industry to discuss the challenges of today (as presented in the position paper) in order to continue improve HVDC system reliability and availability further in the future.

Workshop objectives:

  1. To gather HVDC industry for sharing their experiences and giving their perspectives related to HVDC reliability & availability, including European decision makers and main developers and experts from:

o HVDC system owners (TSOs, other owners);

o HVDC cable and station vendors that are active in the European market;

o regulators (at least ACER); and

o standardization bodies (at least IEC); and

o collaboration organizations (at least Europacable and CIGRE SC B4).

  1. To share the challenges, concerns and improvement needs presented in the ENTSO-E position paper on HVDC reliability improvement related to

o pre-planning of HVDC projects

o implementation of HVDC-projects

o operation and maintenance of HVDC systems

  1. To share experiences how to be able to further improve reliability & availability of HVDC-links by

o setting up requirements in the commercial and technical specifications;

o introducing improved solutions;

o improving outage and fault data management;

o improving co-operation between all stakeholders in HVDC industry;

o enhancing experience/knowledge sharing and skills management; and

o using appropriate methods to shorten both failure tracing and repair times.

  1. To collect all stakeholders together to discuss how to continue to improve co-operation and do joint work efforts to increase reliability & availability of HVDC-systems further, and therefore, to ensure a high reliability level of the HVAC and HVDC grids in the future.

Target audience:

This Final Dissemination Workshop is open for decision makers and main developers and experts from HVDC system owners (ENTSO-E member TSOs, other owners/users), HVDC cable and station vendors / manufacturers and collaboration bodies, European regulators and authorities (ACER, EC), standardization bodies (at least IEC) and other significant stakeholders like CIGRE SC B4.
