Decision on the second edition of the ENTSO-E CIM profile

Following detailed reviews by its relevant committees ENTSO-E has decided not to implement the second edition of the ENTSO-E CIM profile. Vendors are advised that registration to the second test “CIM for System Development and Operations” 2011 is now open on cim.iop@entsoe.eu

On 17th and 18th November 2010 both System Operations Committee and System Development Committee discussed the status of the draft version of the second edition of the ENTSO-E CIM profile.

The CIM profile has been examined in the ENTSO-E interoperability test in July 2010. In order to ensure stabilization in the CIM profile and completion of the migration process towards CIM, the committees confirmed that the first edition of the ENTSO-E CIM profile (issued in May 2009) is the official version.  Therefore data exchange processes using CIM should be based on the first edition of the ENTSO-E CIM Profile.

The second edition of the ENTSO-E CIM profile will not be implemented before finalization of the CIM issues addressed during the ENTSO-E interoperability test (IOP) 2010 and conditions listed in the Chapter 5 in the ENTSO-E IOP Final Report. The current draft of the second edition should be further developed and tested during ENTSO-E IOP in 2011 taking into account IEC development of CIM and the requirements of ENTSO-E. Timetable for the next stage of development: From October – November 2011, both committees will decide on the implementation of the next draft of the second edition of the ENTSO-E CIM profile. If it is approved  it will become the official

ENTSO-E CIM profile as of January 2013, thereby  ensuring one year of implementation (year 2012).  The intention is for the ENTSO-E Interoperability test in 2012 to be focused on development of a draft version of the third edition of the ENTSO-E CIM profile.

Registration for the ENTSO-E Interoperability Test “CIM for System Development and Operations” 2011

Taking into account the above decisions ENTSO-E requests vendors to register by Monday 20 December 2010, 17:00h CET  for the ENTSO-E IOP “CIM for System Development and Operations” in 2011 and submit the following information:

1.  software/product to be tested. 2.  the expected number of people from the vendor’s side (ENTSO-E will limit the number of attendees per vendor, if required). 3.  contact information of all attendees. 4.  confirmation on availability to attend the IOP that will be organized in the week of 11 July 2011 in the ENTSO-E premises in Brussels.  It is expected that the preparation of the IOP will start in January 2011.

It is planned that the ENTSO-E IOP “CIM for System Development and Operations” in 2011 will test the following:

  • The correctness of implementation of the first edition of the ENTSO-E CIM profile (May 2009) in the software packages which are available to TSOs (approximately one day of the IOP); and
  • The next draft version of the second edition of the ENTSO-E CIM profile; which should be based on the current draft of the second edition of the profile and which will include resolution of the issues identified by the IOP in 2010.  It will include new features and upgrades that results from IEC work on upcoming CIM15.
