ENTSO-E IT Platforms

ENTSO-E maintains a number of IT platforms. These fullfill many different roles from consuming operational, to economic modeling and processing statistical data.

Transparency Platform

Transparency is essential for the implementation of the Internal Electricity Market (IEM) and for the creation of efficient, liquid and competitive wholesale markets. It is also critical for creating a level playing field between market participants and avoiding the scope for market power (if it exists) to be abused.

Common Grid Model

The common grid model will be a pan-European mathematical model of the grid, for which, TSOs will need to share their individual grid models with the other TSOs and the regional security coordinators (RSCs). RSCs are responsible for merging the different grid models of the TSOs and issue common grid models, which are then shared with the TSOs in order for them to adapt their operational planning with this new regional information. The same process can be used in the future for TSO-DSO coordination. For the secure management of a continuous exchange of sensitive data, a new operational planning IT environment needs to run on a dedicated communication network. Additionally, central calculation units or apps need to be integrated to this environment to run a series of sub processes at pan-European level.

European Awareness System

The EAS is the technology platform which allows transmission system operators to exchange information in realtime. All operators input a number of measurements including frequency and cross border exchange. These measurements are then merged to provide an overall European view of each TSO on the platform.

Energy Identification Codes

ENTSO-E has devised a standard way of referencing the different pieces that enable exchange of information int the single energy market. This includes objects (parts of the grid eg. lines & stations) and parties (eg. generators & market participants). ENTSO-E is the central place where these codes are published. They are issued by a network of issuing offices which include both electricity & gas operators and third parties.
